Mandawa, a village in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan is known worldwide among the art enthusiasts. The handicrafts and furniture industry of Mandawa is a major source of livelihood to a majority of the population.

Mandawa-a trading post for the Arab and Chinese traders: Mandawa was founded by a Rajput fighter, Thakur Nawal Singh. After the construction of the Mandawa Fort, a trading city was developed where the rich merchants lived. Mandawa was once on the caravan routes to China and Arab countries. The rich merchants of Mandawa decorated their havelis with frescoes and they also beautified the countryside of Mandawa.

The best time to tour Mandawa village is in between the month of October to March.

Travel Attractions at Mandawa:

Mandawa Fort: Located in the heart of village, Mandawa Fort is the major landmark of the Mandawa. It has been converted into a heritage hotel now. The architecture is of Rajput architecture and the fort is mainly worth viewing for its paintings and murals.

Mandawa Havelis: Mandawa tour is synonymous with the beautiful havelis located in and around the village. While at Mandawa one can tour the havelis on a camel-drawn cart. The havelis are adorned with paintings, known as frescoes. The themes of the frescoes are folk stories and mythological stories of Hindu myths. The havelis are Mohanlal Haveli, Chowkhani Haveli and Lakhsminarayan Haveli.

Mandawa excursion tour can be planned to other Shekhawati towns such as Nawalgarh, Mukundgarh, and Dundlod. All the towns house some of the famous havelis of Shekhawati village.

Mandawa is about 250 kms from Delhi. One can reach by train or by bus.
